The brain is the key part of the nervous system. Different parts and structures of the brain control functions of every system in the organism. Human brain is responsible for the sensoric perception and the cognitive processes of each individual. Human brain has a bilateral symmetry and can be anatomically devided into hindbrain, midbrain and forebrain. Hindbrain includes structures that are called myelencephalon (forms medulla oblongata) and metencephalon (is composed of the pons and the cerebellum). Midbrain or mesencephalon connects hindbrain with the forebrain, which is composed of diencephalon and telencephalon. Forebrain structures in the model are shown in brown color while all the other structures are depicted in grey. The largest part of the brain is cerebrum. It is covered with cerebral cortex that has grooves and curves. It is devided in two hemispheres and each hemisphere has it’s own lobes — frontal, parietal, occipital, temporal and insular. The cerebral cortex is responsible for the most complicated reactions of human brain and the mental activity.
